Any paid employment positions are restricted to those aged 17 or over so we can comply with legal requirements.

1:1 Support Worker for Child with Autism and Pica

Job Title: Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Assistant

Location: The Village Pre-School, Upham

Hours: Monday - Friday 10.00am - 2.00pm (term time only)

Duration: Fixed Term (end July 2025)

Salary: £11.44 per hour

​

Job Overview:  

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated 1:1 support worker to provide individualised support to a young child with Autism and Pica within our Pre-School setting. The child is non-verbal, so experience in using Makaton and Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) is essential.  You will play a critical role in their development and welfare, supporting them to engage in daily activities, routines and learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • A minimum level 3 in Early Years or relevant field is desirable.

  • Experience of working with children with Autism and Pica is desirable.

  • Proficiency in using Makaton and PECS is essential.

  • Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

  • Understanding of safeguarding and health and safety practices within an Early Years setting.

​

Skills and Attributes:

  • Compassionate and patient, with a genuine interest in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside parents, SENDCo and multidisciplinary professionals.

  • Proactive, with the ability to develop engaging activities and respond to the child's individual needs.

  • High attention to detail, particularly in observing and documenting the child's progress.

  • Adaptable and flexible, with a willingness to support the wider Pre-School team as required.
